The internet is a great place to find wonderful deals on all sorts of items – sometimes much better deals than you can find in local retail stores. Thanks to search engines, almost anything you could want to buy is just a search string and some button pushes away. And you can comparison shop within minutes, without leaving your home or using any gas for transportation.
It’s also an amazing source of freebies. Because internet “stores” have lower overhead than traditional brick and mortar retailers, they can often price merchandise and services very competitively. Some traditional retailers even offer special deals on their own sites over the internet, which you can’t get by visiting their stores. Shipping is often free, or affordable enough to to still keep the overall transaction cheaper than it would be to buy it at a store. After all, it costs them money to ship products from warehouses to their retail stores – with that savings, they can offer you a bargain on shipping and still make profits.
Because internet shopping is so quick and easy, the time it saves you is time you can put toward something else. Instead of spending an hour or two driving from store to store to learn which item you want and then comparison shop it, you can do all this online by reading website descriptions of products and customer reviews in a fraction of the time.
If you let web retailers add you to their mailing lists, most will send you coupons, special deals and notifications of upcoming sales on items of interest. Many sites even have options that let you select what interests you and get emails strictly about those items. And you can easily “opt out” of any emails if you decide you don’t want them anymore.
You may also discover free or cheap downloadable electronic versions of products you enjoy, such as magazine subscriptions, music files, books and software. The wonderful thing about downloads is that you get them immediately.
Ordering tickets online for movies and other events saves you time in line, and often allows you to take advantage of pre-sales.
