Magazine subscriptions as gifts
Magazine subscriptions can be a great gift, particularly for people you don’t know well. Basically, you just find out which subjects interest them and pick a magazine on that topic. One caveat: some people don’t appreciate magazines because they feel these publications are wasting paper. On the other hand, there are magazines for those with environmental interests and concerns, so it depends on that individual’s attitude. Just something to be aware of.
Of course, magazines don’t have to be paper anymore.
Digital magazines
You can subscribe to magazines online and on a Kindle device or as a phone app, and get digital content that is not available to non-subscribers. This can be a fantastic and totally paperless gift. Some subscriptions include both the paper and digital versions.
Magazine topics
Whichever subscription format you choose – paper, online, Kindle or app – there are magazines for almost every topic imaginable. Archeology, astronomy, meditation, yoga, video gaming, board games, going green, saving money, DIY projects, etc. – you name it, it’s out there. It’s up to you to find out what the person you’re shopping for likes, but once you do, you can get help finding the right magazine by visiting a local bookstore. Non-chain independent bookstores are a great source of information, as you can often talk to the very person who’s in charge of ordering whichever magazines the shop carries. Chain bookstores are also helpful, as the staff are often avid readers and someone will surely be a magazine enthusiast (or at least in charge of that part of the bookstore).
