Cheap LCD TVs – 3 Places to Get Them

LCD TVs are coming down in price slowly but surely. Selection is on the rise, and so is competition, and that’s driving prices down to roughly what old-style TVs used to cost. It’s not that difficult to find a decent or good LCD TV for just a few hundred dollars – far lower than the price tags in the thousands of a few years ago.

Where to find cheap LCD TVs

There are a number of places that sell LCD TVs at competitive prices.

Discount Appliance/Department Stores. It may sound obvious, but sometimes you can find the very best deal at a discount store that sells TVs. Getting the best deal requires watching the market patiently for a while, scanning lots of ads from lots of discount shops, and being aware of the possibilities of refurbished models, floor models and slightly damaged sets. These will be sold at a significant discount off the usual discount chain prices. Refurbished models have been returned to the factory, thoroughly checked, restored to like-new condition, and put back on the market. Because they’re not allowed to sell these as new, you are effectively getting a new set at a less-than-new price. Floor models have been in use and may have suffered some wear and tear from customers testing them (the remote is usually the only issue, since its buttons can wear out, but the TV itself should only have seen normal use). Floor models can be slightly scratched, so have an idea from all your research how much the store normally discounts for damage and for floor models, and insist on the deeper discount of the two. Damaged models have usually been scratched in shipping.

Be aware of how recent the models available are. Discount stores will often carry last year’s model at significant savings – as long as it does everything you want it to do, it’s a bargain.

Craigslist. If you don’t mind an LCD TV that’s a few years old, check Craigslist in your area. When people are moving, they sometimes sell off perfectly good items for fear they won’t survive the move or because it’s cheaper to buy something new than to move it. This can be a good way to get hold of an affordable LCD TV.

The net. The internet in general is a great place to look for LCD TV bargains. Not just eBay and Craigslist, but discount websites that can compete with the big box stores by having lower overhead and lower prices. Just be aware of shipping costs, which can bring the price right back up. Many websites offer great shipping discounts or even free shipping – you just have to do the research.
