Buying a platform bed without breaking the bank

Platform beds used to be pricey – they could be many thousands of dollars, and even the cheapest one available would be considerably more expensive than most frame bed sets. But there are now less expensive options available with platform beds, so even if your budget isn’t much, you can find a good platform bed that suits you.

Size

Obviously, the size is always important in choosing a bed. You need a bed that will fit into your room and accommodate whoever’s going to be sleeping in it. But remember also that platform beds can be very heavy and not that easy to move. If you anticipate moving in the near future, you may want to stick with the cheapest platform bed available for now and wait until you’re settled before investing in a better one.

Good news: platform beds usually take up a bit less space than frame beds.

Style

Most platform beds are in modern minimalist styles. It’s not easy to find a platform bed with elaborate carvings on the headboard, for example. But platforms can be virtually hidden behind your pillows and bed linens, so matching an existing bedroom set should not be a problem (they don’t even have to include headboards or footboards). But if you’re desperate for a really grand bed, you may want to consider a four-poster canopied or curtained look.
